I was fortunate to win a copy of this book through a first impression post on this site, and am so pleased I did! The book lived up to my initial expectations and I read it in a day as I became so caught up in the characters.
A group of friends become reunited at the funeral of one of their childhood friends. Despite life taking them off in different directions, they become entangled again with the discovery of letters wrote by the dead man who has revealed a secret about them all. As the group struggle to come to terms with their picture perfect image of “friends forever who share everything” being shattered they must decide who to trust and what to share.
Although some of the secrets seem a bit soap-opera ish, I think the way they have affected the characters and how they are unpicked is very effective. Generally the characters appear true to life, and I especially empathised with Ruby who we spend the most time with.
It was enjoyable, and with twist and turns but without seeming that they were there just to shock. For me, the only thing keeping it from a 5* review was the beginning and last chapter, the character they are seen through just didn’t work for me.
