Friends and Liars tells the tale of a small town where the chat spreads like wildfire and secrets are no longer kept. 10 years ago Ruby escaped away from the Crew, her mother and the town she called home to a new life which she built for herself far away. 10 years pass without a single correspondence back home when Ruby finds herself heading home to the funeral of her oldest friend. He leaves envelopes for each of the Crew, each containing there deepest darkest secrets.

My favourite character was Ruby, because most of the book was written from her perspective, her character felt the most meaningful and developed. The characters felt very realistic until the secrets started being unraveled, although after that point they were less realistic but at the same time they had the resemblance of someone you could meet. The story did keep me guessing and I ended up reading it in one go. It was very fast paced and I was never bored. I definitely enjoyed the book more at the start when it all felt slightly more realistic but I didn’t not enjoy it later on. I think that the scenes from the past were the best written and most enjoyable to read.

I did the that the book seemed to skip quite a lot of area’s that I felt should have been covered in more detail which often lead me to not quite follow what was going on. I also didn’t understand the ending which was disappointing as it could have worked brilliantly to finish the book. Overall it was a well written book that I would recommend for someone going on Holiday.
