Historical Crime Novel That Left Me Confused

Friends and Traitors is a new book in an ongoing series which I haven't heard lots of detail about. The sample used long sections of dialogue that at times, I personally struggled to follow. As a reader, I do enjoy novels that fit into these genres of history and/or crime but this one really wasn't for me.
