I started with great expectations for this book but was terribly disappointed. I’ve never read any of the other books in the Inspector Troy series but felt that shouldn’t matter and I’m not sure it did. I love books set in this period and particularly police stories. However, I found this one just didn’t do it at all. For a smashing wartime police series I thoroughly recommend Laura Wilson’s super Detective Inspector Ted Stratton series which I found head and shoulders above this book. That is, of course, just my opinion and I know many people will really enjoy this. I struggled to read it all the way through but I did stick with it. It’s not awful or anything, just not for me. I won’t be rushing to read any of the others in the series.
