I'm a big fan of Scottish crime fiction and this has a very promising start. From the very first page it seems like a very dark and atmospheric read. The setting seems to play almost as big a part as the characters and the author seems to have a knack for making you feel as if you're there. It does seem like it could be a little gory and uncomfortable to read but that's ok and you kind of expect it in this type of story. Initial impressions of the characters are good with Monica in particular standing out to me. I think this could easily become an addictive read.
