This book was gripping from the offset, and kept me hooked throughout the entire story. I haven't read a vast amount of crime thrillers, but of the few that I have, this is certainly the best.

Following a similar formula to many crime novels, this book begins with the murder of a teenage boy that escalates into a hunt for a potential serial killer. In terms of a unique edge, the astrological factor that played a major part throughout the story was what created the most fascinating divergence from the other crime novels that I have read.

The book is divided between the perspectives of DI Monica Kennedy, who is the lead investigator on the case, Michael Bach, who is a civilian social-worker with personal interest and, at times, both the victims and the killer. This split perspective, without giving away too much of the plot, is both fascinating and highly enjoyable. I found myself invested in the feelings and actions of all of the protagonists, meaning there were no chapters that I wished to skim through to get to the next part of the story.

The story itself is fairly complex, but certainly followable, with many suspects and many characters being introduced throughout the entire plot. I found the misdirection at times highly entertaining, and was impressed by how plausible the suspects seemed, rather than feeling as though they were simply being scapegoated to extend the plot. I was unable to figure out who was responsible for the killings until it was revealed, and that definitely made the book entertaining.

Although I hoped at times that some of the motivations and actions of the side characters were dealt with in greater depth, I found the entire novel to be plausible and enjoyable, with the main characters being developed incredibly well. This book is definitely ideal for anyone who enjoys crime thrillers, and I would highly recommend it.
