I really enjoyed this dark police procedural set in Inverness and the Highlands. We're introduced to DI Monica Kennedy as she leads the investigation into the murder of a teenage boy but the case escalates into something more complex very quickly. GR Halliday makes excellent use of the wild and remote settings. The story reflects the harsh landscape and I'll admit to being glad to have read it in daylight, as it's very graphic and creepy in parts! I had several suspects all at different stages of the book and I do love a story that keeps me trying to figure it all out. DI Kennedy herself is the sort of great character you root for and want to give a good shake at the same time! I enjoyed the other characters too and I'm interested to see who would continue with her to a second book.
