I love reading crime and detective thrillers and try to alternate each one with a book of a different genre (biography, historical fiction, romcom) for some variety. However, I found that From the Shadows did not really hold my attention and at page 240 I gave it up as a bad job.
I liked the main character, D I Monica Kennedy and also the setting in the Scottish Highlands. However, I found the storyline confusing with two similar dead teenage boys and a third missing. I also found some of the plot concerning the social worker, unbelievable - would a police officer really hand over a crucial evidence (a laptop) and delegate part of the investigation to a social worker to look into?
There are so many excellent police procedural novels around at the moment that this book will go to the bottom of my pile and I will probably never get round to finishing it.
