GR Halliday joins the ranks of Scottish authors who excel in writing fast-paced, intriguing thrillers. The main character, DI Monica Kennedy, leads the investigation into a case involving missing teenage boys, murders and more and there are a number of red herrings and twists and turns along the way. I found myself suspecting almost everyone of committing the crimes. There are characters the reader finds themselves sympathising with but with a touch of hesitancy as no-one can be quite sure of their innocence. From The Shadows is a well-written and well thought out debut novel from this author with more books planned around the central character of DI Monica Kennedy. Readers of murder mysteries will thoroughly enjoy this book and look forward to the next one.
