So I love a good police thriller but this just didn't cut it for me. It's a genre I'd normally race through but I just found this hard work for some reason.
I'm not entirely sure why as all the elements were there - boys being lured to their deaths by a mystery figure. A flawed cop and an equally flawed social worker, who are trying to find the killer and a bleak Scottish setting.
It's a combination that should provide a sure fire winner but it just all fell flat for me. I didn't warm to any of the characters, the timeline seemed to be all over the place and I found myself really confused by all the "bit part" characters and trying to remember who was who.
There seemed to be some fairly dodgy police procedures too and, in the end, it all felt a bit contrived.
It wasn't helped by the ending either which felt half done. This may well be because it's the beginning of a new series and we should be keen to find the missing pieces in the next instalment - I just felt irritated and disinclined to bother.
