This wasn't a bad book. It was a good murder mystery with some interesting twists and turns, however there were lots of unfinished story lines, for example there were hints about the detectives daughter having a criminal father but we never found out what it was about. Maybe it will be OK as a series of books but didn't quite work as a stand alone book. I thought from the first look that it might be too gory in places but this wasn't the case. I wouldn't rush to get other books by the same author as I felt there was too much left unresolved. I liked that it was a female detective, the character was well written and came across well. There were a lot of details put it that didn't really add to the story. I enjoyed the descriptions of the locations in Scotland, there were intertwined stories of unsolved crimes but it's a shame it wasn't clear if these were fictional or real.
