I really enjoyed this book. Even more so because it is actually set in the area that I live and work in as a social worker. It's not as often you see a social worker portrayed as a rounded and gritty character with their own challenges and not some vapid jobsworth. I was able to draw parallels with the different geographical areas, Hallidays descriptions of the rural farmhouses and urban streets were bang on. The story was really interesting and kept me gripped through out and I couldn't put it down. Halliday even managed a twist at the end. I like a good plot twist.
I liked the depth of characters and the building of relationships between them.
As a first book I think that Halliday is getting to know his own style and I can't wait to read the next one. I am aware there is a new book due to be released too. I have high hopes for both. It will be good to see what more Halliday has to offer.
