I liked this debut about Scottish crime, although criminal fiction isn't usually a genre I'm interested in. This book in particular was fast-paced and interesting throughout and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series when they are released.
The novel had a dark and edgy feel, and the descriptions of the landscape were haunting and intriguing to read. The story follows Detective Monica Kennedy as she navigates the case of a young boy after he arrives home late, goes up to his bedroom, and is never seen again. Soon after a body is found on the coast of the Scottish Highlands, and Monica Kennedy has to deal with the reality that this will not be the only death in connection with the case.
