I loved this book which is the first book in a new crime series, featuring D. I. Monica Kennedy. The story starts with the death of a young man who has been tortured before being killed and his body posed looking to the west as if praying. D. I. Monica Kennedy is the investigating officer who is a tall ungainly woman who is trying to balance her work and looking after her child Lucy who she refers to as the kid. This leads to the appearance in the story of social worker Michael Bach who thinks the dead boy could be Nichol Morgan a young boy in his care.
The writing pulls you in and keeps you wanting to read more, the characters are strong but flawed and the plot keeps you interested. I can’t wait to read the second instalment in this series.
