A fantastic debut novel ! Full of tense excitement . Very descriptive , you can see the places in your head .
This is the first book in an ongoing series of crime novels , featuring the Detective Monica Kennedy . Taller than most women she is a striking figure with a forceful character .
The book begins with a chilling chapter . A young man called Robert arrives home , calls out to his father and goes upstairs to his bedroom and is never seen alive again . I was hooked right from the very first page . The descriptive passages give an almost film like quality and I can imagine it would make a brilliant television series.
Monica is portrayed with all the vulnerability of a working mother , particularly one with such a demanding job .Unsocial hours and huge amounts of guilt when she has to work instead of spending time with her young daughter , Lucy .This human touch is in stark contrast with the brutality encountered in her police work . The tension is almost unbearable at times . I lost great chunks of time on Sunday devouring this book !
