In essence this is the tale of how the murder of one boy can have wide reaching consequences a bit like throwing a stone in a pond with the ever increasing ripple effect touching further afield.
At the forefront of these effects is Ryan the best friend of the murdered boy but also a bit player in the wider criminal network run by Shakiel. Shakiel fears other gangs are encroaching on his territory and has reached across the water to Europe to access a cache of military grade weapons with which he intends to protect his territory and more importantly his reputation.
Into this scenario come two very different investigating officers and their respective teams – Sarah who is investigating the murder of Spencer, and Kieran whose sole focus is on preventing weapons getting onto the streets of London and sees arresting Shakiel as part of this.
It soon becomes apparent that both investigations are going connect with Ryan being the connection. How this inter-connection is managed will have wide reaching consequences for the officers concerned, Ryan and a range of other people.
If nothing else the moral ambiguities of law enforcement are brought to light.
A well-paced story based at least partly on the author’s previous career in the police force.
