Complex and Gripping

This was a complex plot, centred around two London gangs and their periphery, and it was interesting to have a detailed view of how they operate, and how easily tensions and violence can escalate between them. It was bleak in parts, as we hurtled towards the inevitable conclusion. This could prompt the reader to feel that there is no way out for a lot of young people and their families connected with these groups, but perhaps that is an accurate reflection, and so deserves to be discussed. The writer went into great detail about police procedure and also the many hindrances to completing a job, mostly connected with permissions and funding. I felt this gave a down-to-earth view that is lacking in many other detective books. I was gripped by this and thought it was a thoroughly good read.
