Even without reading the background to Kate London you can just tell she worked for the police by the tone, politics and nitty gritty of this book. It’s written well from the perspective of different members of the Met Police and the perspective of the teenage gang member who is reeling from the death of his best friend. Kate London reflects well on the work life balance of the police, the fine lines they cross and the decisions to be made however popular they may prove. The characters are not necessarily written to be liked but are strong characters that make you want to take an interest in them. She writes about Ryan, the troubled teenager especially well and it’s a very real look at the very current issue of gangs in London. Overall this is a very topical solid crime novel and I highly recommend it
