This book starts with the funeral of a teenage boy who is stabbed on the streets of London and approaches a stranger for help. The stranger turns out to be an ex military off-duty paramedic who tries to save him. The air ambulance is called and as it lands the boys friend disappears in a hurry, taking with him the paramedics mobile phone.
