I really enjoyed this novel, it has one of the best opening chapters I think I've read. Agneta is waving goodbye to her grandchildren after looking after them for the weekend when the landline rings. The caller says one word 'Gieger' then hangs up. Without even waiting for the cars to drive away Agneta takes an old revolver thats been hidden in the house and quietly and calmly shoots her husband of over fifty years in the head. This was so unexpected and completely in contrast to the old arthritic woman who dotes on her grandchildren at the beginning of the book.
Sarah Nowak is a police officer working in vice but grew up as a childhood friend of Agneta's daughters and gets involved in the case of who murdered Stellan and where Agneta is, shes believed to be kidnapped or hiding from the murderer. Sarah has to confront her past, her family relationships and her career when she can't help but get involved.
There are some wonderful female characters in this book and I found the historical information about Sweden and the Cold War really interesting. It is fast paced with many unexpected twists and turns.
