Geiger would not normally be a book I would chooses to read, as more into romantic fiction and it is safe to say that this book with themes including; child abuse, prostitution and rape does not fit into that category.

Written originally in Swedish and translated, it is well written and gives an insight into how Sweden saw events during the Cold War and how Russian and German spies hid in plain sight among Swedish citizens.

The story starts with a call made to an elderly woman from an untraceable number with just one word Geiger. This causes Agneta Broman an elderly woman to execute her husband and then go on the run, minutes after waving goodbye to her daughters Lotta and Malin and grandchildren.

A former family friend of the sisters, now a police officer in vice squad becomes involved as she knows the family alongside a colleague from the academy who works in murder cases.

The novel guides the reader through events dating back to post Cold War Sweden and links with East Germany as the race to unravel why Agneta killed her husband and stop a terrorist attack.

As we read through the book you begin to empathise with characters - the sisters who have lost their father and mother is missing until revelations about the family come to light - the police officer who knew the family - the wife who has vanished. None of the characters are perfect making them more relatable

The book was better than I expected and I will look out for more books with a similar genre in future.
