Unfortunately I really struggled to get into this book and decided to stop reading it after around 100 pages, which I very rarely do. The book has a very strong start and I was immediately interested in the premise whereby a phone call causes a grandmother to shoot her husband in the head. I’d love to know what the reasons were behind this, but found it too hard going to continue. There are a huge number of characters introduced in the first few chapters, and I kept having to remind myself who was who as I found it difficult to remember. There was a lot of historical background included about a period that I’m not familiar with - I’m sure this is interesting to some readers and is certainly worth being educated about, but for me it turned a “thriller” into a slow burning history lesson, and is not my area of interest.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author via Readers First and this is my honest, voluntary review.
