This is such a strong opening - a woman answers the phone, hears one word, hangs up and shoots her husband. That get's your attention all right. Unfortunately, then we find ourselves in an overly complicated spy thriller, with a side of sex crimes and abuse, and a central character who, despite being smart enough to be a well respected police woman is totally oblivious to joining the dots in her own childhood.

The plot is unnecessarily complicated, and while I appreciate there may be cultural differences some huge points that require a massive leap of the imagination that this could possibly be proper police procedure when investigating a murder and disappearance.

This is ultimately disappointing despite it's great start and could really do with a lot of superfluous plot details/strands editing out. I found it hard to sustain my interest as I became increasingly frustrated with the lead character.
