I had such high hopes for this book, with a brilliant opener that hooked me in straightaway and made me want to keep on reading. It was certainly intriguing...why would a grandma shoot her elderly husband on the orders of a mystery phonecall?

Sadly though, after an exciting and mysterious beginning, the tone changed fairly rapidly.

This is a much darker book than I originally thought it to be. It's not a glamorous take on the world of international spies, but rather a murky take on women as commodity. As such, I found it a difficult read in places and the descriptions were somewhat graphic. Themes around rape of young girls was not something I would usually choose to read and I definitely found it difficult for this reason.

The storyline however for the most part was different, although I had guessed one of the main surprises along the way which was a bit disappointing.
