E. Lockhart is an author that would be familiar to those of us who read a lot of YA due to a book like We Were Liars which was one of my favourite books and was hyped up by many in the book community. When I therefore first heard that E. Lockhart was releasing a new book I was therefore really excited about it and it delivered offering an intriguing premise that had me engaged until the end.

I have seen negative reviews for this book and therefore feel like this is a book that can be a little bit like marmite where people will love it or hate it but I loved this book. I was slightly confused at first as I didn't know what was going to happen but I got over this quite quickly and became engaged with the story as I was trying to piece it together.

The plot to this book is told backwards so I can see why it can be confusing at time but I found that this added to the plot as I did just want to find out what happens as quickly as possible. The beginning of the book does feel complicated as you don't really know what goes on until the end but I still found this really interesting and I kept reading.

I would also advise not to think about things as you go along and just let it evolve on the page because I overthought it and discovered the plot which didn't let me down but this could be something that could affect someone's experience.

The characters in this book are also not that developed and likeable but I think this is the point as these people are not nice but I think that this does add to the book and in the end, I did just like how dark Jules got by the end.

The Verdict:

Genuine Fraud is an exciting and interesting read that will keep the reader guessing until the very end.
