this book kept me hooked from the beginning! while i found that it was sometimes hard to keep up with the timeline, especially given all of the monologues, sticking with it really paid off. having read others from e.lockhart, i was excited to read this and see how it held up compared to the others. while this may not be lockhart's best, it is certainly an enjoyable read. the cover doesn't give much away, which i found interesting and in keeping with the theme of the book- not much is as it seems.

neither of the main characters are particularly likeable, but that was to be expected. the chronological order of things makes it a challenge at points. the language is captivating and absorbing. i did find that it had almost too much in common with books such as the talented mr ripley, which interested me as many elements are the same. while i preferred we were liars, this book is still good!
