Lack of suspense

I had such high hopes for this book! The premise is thrilling as is the opening chapter. Within only a few pages I was hooked. Where it all fell down for me is the structure. I've read a couple of books that follow this path - starting in the present and then working backwards. The problem is that you then know everything already and are just reading to find out how exactly the protagonist, Jule, got to each stage. This novel lost all its potential suspense for me.

My other issue is that it felt very bitty. Perhaps again this is because of the travelling back and having to start each chapter outlining where and when it was taking place, but it didn't read smoothly. Because of this I also never warmed to Jule and never cared about Imogen or what happened to her. It's such a shame as I think a straightforward chronological story could have been incredible. The ingredients were all there, just in the wrong order!
