This book wasn’t for me. I was initially drawn into the novel from the complex characters and the interesting format, but unfortunately after a while I found them quite predictable. The grand reveal isn’t so grand if you know what’s going to happen. To me the format was a bit chaotic jumping from past to future made keeping up with the timeline a huge effort. I also found that I wasn’t rooting for anyone in this book, although it may have been the author’s intention to create unlikable characters, I felt so detached from them that I didn’t really care what happened to them. The ending itself, although predictable, was wrapped up way too quickly and it was quite unsatisfying. Despite all this, I have to say that I still love the writing style and will be trying more of her books. For me all the hype around this book was probably what made me go into it with such high expectations and that may have put me on a path where disappointment was inevitable. The premise of the novel had such promise, but in my opinion this was promise unfulfilled.
