This is the third in a series, and as I haven't read Exile or Nomad the previous two books I felt at a major disadvantage as I started this book.

Although I'm sure the marketing people will say this can be read as a stand alone novel I hate diving into a series at it's mid-point. I feel you've missed a lot of back story and character development and can't quite enjoy it in the same way.....and that's exactly how I felt with this book. Because of that I didn't really feel a connection or invested in the characters and couldn't really just let myself go along with it for the ride.

It's well written but I just felt detached throughout and didn't enjoy it as much as I may have if I'd read the previous books beforehand.
