This seems like the exact sort of book I'd have been all over...just 20 years ago rather than now sadly.
I like the message it gives that girls should never try and improve themselves for a boy, but it still seems to be all about getting boys to like you, so feel it's a bit of a mixed purpose.
Maybe better for early teens.
