Written in the style of a journal, the opening few pages are all about how Lara switches to an online journaling app after her brother reads her diary. The only problem is the content doesn’t read like a diary. There’s way too much explaining and filling in back story to fit the style. I’m also not sure the age pitch feels right. Aimed at older children (lots of crushes and make-overs going on which wouldn’t be appropriate for a younger audience) with main characters around 14, the language and style feels more pre-teen and similar to books aimed at 9-12 year olds. I wanted to like this given the cover and blurb suggesting an inspirational book for girls but I’m not sure it will hit the mark.
