Millie Gogarty is the first character we meet, and this old character who so adamantly shuns the shackles of old age makes the reader love her more and more. In merely 10 pages, the author seems to describe what I'm sure many old people feel - the wish that their family doesn't abandon them and leave them in a care home.
Immediately, we're presented with the complexity of everyday life, and I can tell I'd love this book!!!
