Oh well this is just an absolute riot of a book - all the joy of dysfunctional families and feisty pensioners!
This is the story of the Gogarty’s - teenager Aideen, her hapless dad Kevin and his hurricane of a mother, Millie. It’s a story of first loves, first affairs, petty crimes and one long trip to get justice, but mostly it’s of course a story of family and all of the drama that entails.
I really loved this novel - the characters were delightful and the laughs were plentiful, but it was also just full of heart and had some really touching moments.
Millie will quite possibly be added to my list of favourite characters of all time - she is exactly what you want in a nan, if perhaps not exactly what you’d want in a mother! I loved the special bond between her and Aideen as the two kind of rebels in the family.
This is just one of those lovely uplifting reads which you can get completely lost in and where you feel a little bereft once you say goodbye to the characters - I’d highly recommend for anyone after something heartwarming!
