I’ve only given Good Eggs 3 stars because I was sorely tempted to stop reading it the first 100 or so pages. It is a nice story with some humorous parts but it’s not a laugh a minute book. The main character Millie is quite a character and she definitely carries the story. The story is far fetched and a lot of “Irish” stereotypes are thrown in, in my opinion, just to pad out the story and appeal to an American reader. I think the inside cover blurb is a bit misleading, it mentions Marian Keyes and Derry Girls which gave me eager expectations, which unfortunately the book didn’t meet.
There are a few other characters but their stories aren’t that attention grabbing. The last half of the book is definitely the best, with a few giggles at the antics of the Gogarty matriarch Millie. Three generations of the Gogarty family are featured but Millie definitely steals your heart.
