Good Eggs by Rebecca Hardiman was a book that I kept coming back to but then ultimately gave up - as life is too short and there are lots of other books to be read. To begin with, I was confused about the title "Good Eggs". I don't know anyone who calls a trustworthy person a "good egg" and felt that the title was dated.
I thought I would warm to the characters as I read further, however this was not too be. Good Eggs is a story about a family, the Gogartys and their life. There is Millie the gran who likes to shoplift, Kevin her stepson who is now a stay at home parent and struggling to cope, and Aideen, the typical troublesome, teenage daughter. There are other characters as well, such as Aideen's twin sister, a younger brother and Kevin's wife who is always working. However, these are just very minor characters and you do not get to know them well. Good Eggs is funny, good-humoured and fun according to the accolades, however I did not think so and struggled to even raise a smile.
