The Gogarty family have a lot on their plates, Gran Gogarty is a petty thief and all round scam artist who is often brushing with the law, father Kevin is out of work and trying to parent four kids including on sullen, moody half of twins, mam Grace is working all the hours God sends and life is hectic to say the last.
When Aideen finally goes off the rails so bad she is sent to boarding school and Gran ends up nicked for pilfering from the local shop Kevin swears things are going to change.
Aideen is off to Millburn where her father falls for the school secretary Rose and Gran has a minder called Sylvia.
But things aren't as easily sorted as Kevin thinks, their shenanigans end up with Gran being shafted by a con woman and her and Aideen running away to the USA!
Kevin is at his wits end and ready to throw in the towel but then family always come through for one another and after all at heart they are all "good eggs" aren't they?
This was a fun, quirky and at times laugh out loud debut novel from this author and if this is a taste of things to come then I'm definitely keeping my eye out for more of her work which I hope will be a sequel to this one as I adore the Gogarty family.
