Slightly cracked but good eggs.

I enjoyed reading this book.

There were no real surprises in the story.

I didn’t find it difficult to know what was happening or what was likely to unfold, with the exception of Millie & Aideen’s globe trotting escapade which was perhaps far-fetched but not beyond the realms of possibility.

I particularly enjoyed the grisly trick played on Miss Bleekland, which is a new one on me.

I appreciated the diversity of the twins, which was a fresh perspective.

I found the characters realistic. Each of them raised different emotions in me, and I think it is the combination of these odd, but perfectly normal, characters that make this such an enjoyable read. They also enable the author to handle some serious themes with humour, just as many families do.

The majority of characters may be slightly cracked, but they are indeed good eggs.

Finally, I applaud the author for making Millie a smoker. So few novels acknowledge that some people do still smoke, and some will even try to sneak a crafty cigarette in inappropriate places.

Thank you to Readers First, Allen & Unwin and Rebecca Hardiman for the ARC in return for my honest review.
