This book seems to be off to a slow start. You get an introduction to the characters and the setting, but nothing really happens.
The main character Jane predictably fails her first task, before gaining a shot at redemption, the guys in her team have a laugh at her, and she finds out she's bottom of the pile - nothing really new for a WPC in the 70s.
I think this book has potential, but more as a casual easy read than a gripping thriller, though I may be proved wrong as the book progresses.
Finally, the cover was okay. The author's name really catches your eye first, but the cover gives nothing away, nor does it really pull you to the book. I think this cover is really relying on people seeing and recognising La Plante's name.
