I've not previously read any Lynda La Plante but I am aware of the lead character of this novel. Everyone of a certain age remembers the first televised series starring Helen Mirren I'm sure.
Wonderful description of how dipping works and certainly showed how easily distracted all of us are, even when focusing on the job in hand we can miss a vital exchange. That's certainly what happens in the opening chapters of the book and already we see why Tennison moves through the determinedly masculine ranks of the late 70's and early 80's Metropolitan Police Force.
