Believe it or not this is the first time I have 'met' Jane Tennison (I know, I know, where have I been!) and I was immediately drawn into her early life as a WDC.

This was an awesome introduction as she immediately experiences turbulence on her very first day as a fledgling in the 'Dip Squad', the specialised police who work to combat organised pick pockets.

I loved the way her colleagues demonstrated the crafty 'dipping' techniques she could expect to be applied by would-be thieves. These were an eye-opener for Tennison and caused an unexpected but necessary amount of embarrassment to enforce just how easy it is to distract someone, even a police officer.

Even from this brief intro I'm liking her character. Already I have a sense of her potential as she hits the ground running, quickly setting aside her naivety during her first operation to focus under extreme pressure in the interview room.

The book jacket intrigued me as it didn't say a lot about what I could expect, but my interest in 'Good Friday' is now well and truly piqued!
