Jane Tennyson has joined the Dip Squad, a team set up to catch the pickpockets and thieves operating around London. And what a wake up call it is for her as she sees first hand the tactics used by 'dippers' to distract their mark while making away with their valuables.
I love the way in which the premise has been set up. A clear introduction tot eh main characters as well as setting the groundwork for a case which looks far from the clear cut dip and run operation they thought that they were monitoring. Jane's naivete when it comes to this kind of theft shines through in the writing and yet you also get a clear look at her undeniable intuition and her skills which take her above and beyond her colleagues.
Set in the 1970's, you can also sense the sexism which was rife at the time, Jane being the only woman in the dip squad. You can already tell that Jane will ruffle feathers but just how that aids or hinders her career remains to be seen. I'm certainly intrigued to see how far their investigations lead them.
