Jane Tennison is a detective who witnesses an IRA bomb attack and is left to deal with the aftermath both at work and in her personal life. I was left constantly wondering which characters I should and shouldn't trust, and was completely gripped by the amount of detail that this novel contains about the work involved after an attack like this.

I haven't read a novel by Lynda La Plante before this one and feel like I have been missing out. I do love a good mystery with twists throughout but this is the first Crime based novel I have read.
I didn't know if I would get on with the main character because I couldn't identify with her at all to start with, but as the book progressed I started to like her more and more.
The actual storyline is not as fast paced as I expected but still had me staying up late to find out what would happen next. There were a few twists I wasn't expecting that kept me captivated and hungry for more.
Jane Tennison is a character I enjoyed following and rooting for and although the bomb hits a little close to home I really enjoyed getting an insight into the work involved in these cases.
A very detailed crime novel that tackles gritty subjects, including sexism, wonderfully.
