Jane Tennison is now a WDC and still a little naive. She makes blunder after blunder much to her DCI's annoyance and at one point her career hangs in the balance.
She is caught up in an IRA explosion at Covent Garden tube station and is saved from death by a burly man covering her. She sees devastation and death all round her. One old lady has seen the bomber and can identify him but he doesn't match the e-fit given to the police. Jane has caught a glimpse also but cannot identify him.
Jane needs a flatmate but as usual doesn't always make the right choice.
Also, an old friend from Janes training days at Hendon turns up but is she all she seems.
