What a super, inventive, thought provoking different novel. A little girl receives a self help book in the mail and via her internal dialogue we learn about her thoughts and reactions to the book, her life and everything around her.

Gravity is the thing charts Abigail’s life, from the unending grief for her brother who is a missing person, to her marriage, her career in law and the mysterious guidebook that has been arriving in the mail since she was 15.

Abigail is a likeable character, the story moves forward via her internal dialogue. The author focuses sometimes on the mundane happenings of everyday life and how these impact on the characters thoughts. At points the book is laugh out loud funny, particularly the parts where she observes her little boy Oscar and has conversations with him.

The ending is particularly strong and leaves you thinking long after you have read the last sentence.
