I found this a satisfying and readable novel with a believable and sympathetic heroine. The relationships portrayed throughout the story were very convincing too, especially the joy, fear and exasperation experienced by the mother of an endearing small boy.
Although tragic and difficult situations arose they were covered in a way that prevented the book being depressing, without the resolution being at all predictable.
I really enjoyed the observations on various self-help books and theories having tried a few of them in my time as well. Ultimately the message I took away from this book was that the best way to grow, heal and be happy is to live your life taking opportunities offered and seeking out people who are supportive and nurturing and love you for yourself.
