The cover is very reminiscent of a war time novel with the grey colour scheme and images of tanks with village people in the forefront. The red of the text stands out amongst the photograph-like picture.
I am not a huge fan of historical fictions so I wouldn't pick this up initially in a book shop. Despite knowing quite a bit about Russian history as I've studied it before, after reading the first impression, I'm not drawn enough to pick it up. The writing style just lost me and I felt confused as I didn't know what was happening in the plot.
This one's not for me but I'm sure lovers of a historical fiction from this time period will enjoy.
