I found the rolled along at a pace with characters introduced by their speech patterns, which I found really intriguing. I didn't feel that all of the dialogue sounded truly 1940's but then I'm no linguist. I loved the author's voice; very fluid and smooth and I found myself absorbed in the story. I'm interested to find out more about the characters and smuggling ring.
