A great series for historical fiction fans

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series - Then We Take Berlin and The Unfortunate Englishman - and this one is just as good to my mind. I also have the fourth book in the series - Moscow Exile - on my wishlist. I enjoyed the author's other series featuring Inspector Troy who actually pops up in this book. It was a really pleasant surprise.

Joe Wilderness makes a charismatic central character and the pace of the book is great thanks to a combination of the author's love of short chapters and the tension that builds as the book moves to its close. I loved the depiction of swinging 60s London and then the change of location to Finland. Joe always was fond of vodka!

Hammer to Fall is another classy, perfectly paced spy thriller with great period atmosphere and a plot which is a satisfying blend of the personal and the political. I'm really
