I struggled to get into this book - I think a massive part of this for me is due to the copy that was sent to me was a hard back - I don’t chose to read hard backs if I can avoid it.
The first few chapters of the novel were interesting - I learnt a lot about the political situation in Berlin at the time, and I think that the story relies on you knowing this to be able to properly engage with the story. I would recommend reading up about East and West Berlin and about the wall before attempting to read this book. The author assumes that you have a basic understanding of this period of time.
I enjoyed learning about this period of history, and I think I might try again in the future to read this book, but for now, it unfortunately didn’t hook me.
