I do enjoy a good spy thriller but this wasn't one of the best I have read.
I know there are also others in the series so maybe I was missing out on something and needs to be read in chronological order.
Set in the 60s Joe Wilderness gets embroiled in a cobalt mining operation while ostensibly posted to Finland on a cultural exchange to promote Britain abroad.
Bored with the exercise he strikes a deal with an old pal smuggling vodka across the borders but he finds more than he bargained for when the mission becomes more dangerous than he can imagine.
Very James Bond in style this will probably appeal to fans of Fleming or just in general of this genre.
Just not really for me but as I said maybe I just caught up on an adventure when they need to be read in reading order to get a fuller sense of characters and situations.
